Terms of Service

This is a translation. If it differs from the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.
1. Scope
These Terms of Service ("Terms") set out the conditions for using uchu.social (the "Service"). The Service is an AT Protocol PDS (Personal Data Server): it hosts users' accounts and the data stored in them.
By creating an account, you agree to these Terms, the Community Guidelines and the Privacy Policy. The Community Guidelines form part of these Terms.
2. Definitions
- "User" means anyone who has an account on the Service.
- "Account" means an AT Protocol account (DID and handle) created on the Service.
- "Content" means every record and file stored in an account's repository — posts, images, videos, profiles and so on — including data stored in Spaces.
- "Connected app" means a third-party application or service, such as Bluesky or mochott, that uses an account on the Service.
3. Creating an account
- Creating an account requires verifying an email address. You must register an accurate address that you can receive mail at.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, use it with the consent of a parent or guardian.
- Creating accounts by automated means, and creating large numbers of accounts, is prohibited.
- You are responsible for keeping your password and other credentials safe.
- We may ask you to change, or may change, a handle that impersonates another person or organization, or that could be confused with names the Service needs.
4. Nature of the Service
- On the AT Protocol, content such as posts is public on the network by default. Third parties such as relays and AppViews (for example, Bluesky) fetch, copy and store public content.
- Copies held by third parties may remain after you delete content or your account. Your account's identity record in the PLC directory (the history of your DID) cannot be deleted.
- Spaces (data shared only with a limited audience) is an experimental feature. It controls access only; the data is not encrypted.
- Connected apps are run by third parties, and their own terms govern their content and display.
5. Prohibited conduct
When using the Service, you must not:
- break the law or public order, or engage in conduct connected with crime;
- post adult content (content with sexual material or nudity), whether or not it carries a content warning (self-label);
- infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, reputation or other rights of others;
- send spam, create accounts in bulk, or evade email verification (for example, with disposable addresses);
- access the Service without authorization, place excessive load on its servers, or otherwise interfere with its operation;
- create accounts to evade a suspension or other measure;
- violate the Community Guidelines;
- do anything else we reasonably consider inappropriate.
6. Rights in content
You keep the copyright in the content you store on the Service. You grant the operator a free license to use your content to the extent needed to provide the Service, including storing it, copying it (including backups) and distributing it over the AT Protocol.
7. Enforcement
If you violate these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or we believe you are likely to, we may take the following measures without prior notice:
- deleting the content or stopping its distribution;
- suspending (taking down) or deleting the account;
- changing the handle;
- reporting to law enforcement and responding to lawful requests.
8. Migrating and deleting accounts
You can delete your account at any time, or move it to another PDS using the AT Protocol. After a move or deletion, data left on the Service is erased as described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to and suspension of the Service
We may change the Service, or suspend or end it. If we end the Service, we will try to announce it in advance and allow a period in which you can move your account to another PDS.
10. Disclaimers
- We make efforts to back up data, but do not guarantee that data will never be lost or corrupted.
- We are not responsible for connected apps, or for content copied and stored by third parties.
- We are not liable for damage arising from the Service, except in cases of our willful misconduct or gross negligence.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms when needed. We will post the new Terms and their effective date on the Service. Using the Service on or after the effective date means you accept the changed Terms.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The district court with jurisdiction over the operator's location has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over disputes about the Service.
